Distinguished Alumni/nae of the Year

The Norfolk Catholic Schools Alumni Board established this award in 2002 to recognize distinguished alumni and alumnae. This award is presented annually at the NCS All-School Reunion, and the honoree is chosen by the alumni board using the following criteria:

  • Support of Catholic Education (volunteer, financial, sending children to, etc)
  • Excellence in their vocation as a parent, professional or clergy member
  • Civic involvement (leadership and voluntary involvement, club memberships, etc.)
  • Parish involvement
  • Be a graduate of Norfolk Catholic Schools ( Sacred Heart High School, Assumption Academy, Burns High and Norfolk Catholic High School )

Nominations are accepted at any time from alumni/alumnae and both current and former NCS staff.

Past Recipients:

  • Patrick Weishapl ‘36
  • Neal Becker ‘73
  • Terry & Julie (Bruckner) Pfeifer ‘81
  • Don Mayberger ‘61
  • Don & Shirley Sock Family (Todd '80, Barb '81, Kurt '82, Jeff ‘84, Tricia ‘87, Lynda & Lisa ‘93)
  • Tim Brogan ‘82

“Throughout his schooling, Tim had a supportive Catholic Family.  From entry into Sacred Heart Grade School until graduation from Norfolk Catholic High School; he developed and demonstrated respect for the priests, teachers, and administration.

This developed the bond, respect, and love he has for the school.  He reciprocates this by the activities he supports.

He is cognizant of the benefits of a Catholic School Education and the atmosphere that surrounds it.  He is a “people person” and he uses his talents in many ways to assist the schools.

He and some of his peers have created and support a scholarship for a deserving graduate of the high school each year.  Whenever he has the opportunity, he encourages others to support the system in whichever way they can.

His unquestioned loyalty to the Norfolk Catholic School system is a fact – not fiction.”

Support your Alma Mater

Development at Norfolk Catholic Schools is the cooperative effort of people working to support and guarantee our school's mission and vision. NCS motivates students through strong educational expectations enriched by a dynamic spiritual foundation and supported by an exceptional network of family, friends, faculty, staff and alumni/alumnae.

A strategic development program supports the students of today and ensures the future of the mission. Annual and on-going fundraising efforts contribute a significant portion of the costs of educating a NCS student and maintaining the high quality programs.

By contribution to NCS, you are enriching the lives of more young men and women as they become a part of Norfolk Catholic Schools' tradition of excellence. By embracing the NCS community, you are providing valuable opportunities for Norfolk Catholic's young men and women as they discover their talents, connect with their faith, pursue their life's mission and inspire the world around them.

How Can I Support NCS?

"Buy a Brick - Support our School": Many of you probably have noticed the engraved bricks in the entrance of Norfolk Catholic High School . The bricks line each side of the entrance, thus creating a wall of alumni, friends, parents and supporters of Norfolk Catholic Schools. It is a means of memory and recognition and a lasting statement of support and pride. Three different sizes of bricks can be purchased and engraved upon.

2 ½ X 7 ½ - $100 7 ½ X 7 ½ - $500 7 ½ X 12 - $1,000

If you are interested in receiving more information regarding the "Buy a Brick" Fund Drive, please contact Travis Fisher, at (402) 371-2621.

Educational Endowment Funds:
Sacred Heart Parish has four educational endowment funds. These funds include: Sacred Heart Elementary School Endowment, Norfolk Catholic High School Endowment, Norfolk Catholic Schools Scholarship Endowment (aids with tuition assistance) and the Religious Education Department Endowment. These funds were created so all students may have the opportunity to receive a Catholic education. The interest from the endowment funds decreases student cost and makes Catholic education affordable to all families. Successful schools like Norfolk Catholic Schools need additional support to stay strong and viable. The educational endowment funds will help our young people to be better Catholics and better members of society. Contributions are made to the endowment funds for a variety of reasons or occasions such as:

Living Memorials ... A unique way to honor a special person or couple in your life. Events commemorated often include wedding anniversaries, birthdays, college degrees, retirements, etc.

Memorials for Deceased ... When we experience a death, an Educational Endowment Fund may be named as the family choice for contributions. Friends are therefore given the opportunity to honor the wishes of the family and at the same time know that their memorial contribution will provide "perpetual life" to a community of faith.

Norfolk Catholic Schools announces the creation of the Norfolk Catholic Schools Scholarship Endowment:

Father Dave Belt, President of Norfolk Catholic Schools, announced in November 2003, the creation of the Norfolk Catholic Schools Scholarship Endowment.  The income generated from the Norfolk Catholic Schools Scholarship Endowment will be used to award scholarships to those students in need of assistance with tuition. The late Mr & Mrs. Ray Stephen, Bill Gaines Sr. (in memory of son, Paul (Doug) Gaines '75) and an anonymous donor contributed a total of $400,000 to kick-off the Norfolk Catholic Schools Scholarship Endowment.  These donors have been associated and committed to Catholic education for many years.

If you are interested in establishing a named memorial in memory of a loved one, classmate or friend, this can be done with a contribution of $1,000. Once a named memorial has been established, contributions of any amount can be received in memory of that person. Contributions to the Scholarship Endowment will be published in each issue of the KnightWatch .
